Beauticians Urged To Halt All Activities Due To Coronavirus Crisis

Coronavirus keeps spreading globally and as such everyone is taking precautions however not everyone can save him or herself.

As things keep getting worse every day, folks in the beauty industry, including make-up artists across the country, have been advised to consider suspending their activities due to the spread of the virus.

The beauty industry in Ghana is seen as one of the key areas of society that has a risk of spreading the virus due to the nature of working in that industry.

Make-Up Ghana, organizers of the prestigious Ghana Make-up Award, urge beauticians to consider suspending their bookings.

However, it added that if the booking is critical, then stakeholders must exercise the most extreme caution in dealing with their clients.

“We urge all beauty practitioners to suspend all bookings or adopt the use of face masks and gloves if the booking is critical. Use alcohol-based cleansers to disinfect brushes, eyeliners, pencils, etc as well as usage of disposal applicators,” Make-Up Ghana

It also reiterated the call on the use of sanitizers and washing of hands with soap under running water for 20 seconds, among others, to avoid contamination. The advice follows that of other industries that have suspended their activities to stem the spread of coronavirus.

Ghana has recorded six confirmed cases of the virus. In the wake of that, President Akufo-Addo has ordered the closure of all schools and universities in the country as part of measures to stem the tide of coronavirus cases.

There is also suspension on public gathering as well as other stringent travel measures to curb the spread.

Accra Fashion Week 2020 Postponed Over Coronavirus Outbreak

The Chilly Rainy edition of Accra Fashion Week 2020 which is set for March 26th-30th, has been postponed until October 1st-5th, 2020 due to the Corona Virus epidemic.

Although we are fully aware that Ghana at the moment is safe from the Corona Virus, we do not believe now will not be the best time to execute the event that hosts such a large attendance of international guests.

Accra Fashion Week today stands as a grand key event in tourism for Ghana, with over 100 foreign participants including guests from all over the world consistently in attendance.

The event, at times, hosting up to 30 countries on the runway in Ghana, something that isn’t been done anywhere else. This year we were scheduled to host 16 foreign countries on the runway.
Unfortunately, 6 have pulled out due to uncontrollable circumstances in their home country, and a good number of the remaining designers from abroad are in fear to travel.

As Africa’s most popular fashion event, we believe it is our role to take full responsibility in consideration of our participants, guests and the nation as a whole to embrace safety first.

It will be of many regrets to FashionGHANA.com and a damaging cause to the Accra Fashion Week brand if the event is to play any role in the contribution towards the spread of the Corona Virus, especially in Accra, Ghana. The decision was concluded after many discussions with the remaining participating designers, of which all decided to postpone the showcase to October was preferable..
