The 2019 Miss United Nations Grand Prix Beauty Queen, Harriet Lamptey has pleaded with Ghanaians to eschew all negativity as the nation fights the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak which as at now has risen to 65 cases barely two weeks after the first cases were recorded.
The outbreak has led to the partial closure of the country's borders, a halt to all schooling activities, and a ban on public gatherings. Amid the outbreak, there have been lots of developments including the politicization of the whole issue. But in a statement, Ms. Lamptey indicated that it was inappropriate for anybody to politicize the matters or take undue advantage especially when Ghana has recorded cases.
According to her, she believes that this is the wrong time to be headstrong, political or exercise business wits. Ms. Lamptey urged Ghanaians to "take precautionary measures to keep ourselves safe and leave the government to fight the technical aspects." "If you identify any symptoms, report immediately to the nearest facility to get yourself treated and saved. There are the highest chances of total recovery if you are detected early. Please stay isolated till treated, not with the feeling of being stigmatized, but as your service to humanity," she stated.
She added that "This is not the time to be apathetic. We can not dig holes and expect to remain on a bed of roses. This virus is no respecter of person. Let's lookout for Ghana in our own little ways. It's our Ghana."
The closure was announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo in a public broadcast on March 21, 2020, to help reduce the importation of Coronavirus into the country.
